I know some of you have switched from one benzo to another, so I have a question. Can one switch to a different benzo without having to go through all that sedation again that typically happens when a benzo is started? Thanks Gina

I know some of you have referred to the "up and down" feeling with Xanax as compared to the smoother feeling  Klonopin, so would Librium be a more appropriate choice since it wouldn’t have so much of the "up and down" feeling that Xanax can give? Valium and Klonopin just don’t sit well with me. The reason I had choosen Xanax over Librium in the first place was because Xanax didn’t leave me with a lethargic feeling like Librium does. I also thought Xanax would be less likely to produce a depressed mood. Gina

I’d love to hear any answers myself. Just went from Xanax to Klonopin 3 weeks ago. Some good things, some bad. Hard to measure which is better. Have big breathing problems (like asthma) since Klonopin. Probably will switch back to Xanax. So… any ideas here? As a rule, yes. It may depend of course on your personal reaction which is unpredictable. Philip

It may depend of course on your personal reaction which is unpredictable.

Klonopin is known for having more sedating properties than Xanax.  However, since it’s efficacy is so much longer, some people only take it once daily at night when the sedating properties are desirable.  Others, like me, take a small amount in the AM with no sedation after the first couple of weeks, and the large dose at bedtime, and find it much easier to get to sleep. Different strokes for different folks, as always. Gordon Held
