Question:
Boyd Keep up the good work ……. My problem is that my blood pressure fluctuates to a dangerously high level … and I tend to get palpitations ! I just blame it on the men in my house !!! Love & Peace Maryjo
Response:
I had problems with BP fluctuations. I am now taking an anti-anxiety med, which helps a lot. How do you like the Signature? I had it on years ago, but lost it when a hard drive went out. I love the quote! I have no idea who Ellen Parr is or what she wrote, and 3 years of researching have failed to find out (I am curious). Boyd — The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.—-Ellen Parr
Response:
My BP is all over the place since I started Pred.,asa-col,and an anxiety drug!I have also been experiancing palpatations. Both seem to be getting under control now that Im at much lower levels of pred.Good Luck Burr
Response:
Boyd even a year off the stuff, I still have high elevations of PB … mine is dangerously high at times, and I tend to have palpitations …. alot .. My blood pressure tends to get to 186/101 at times ….. Try destressing …… stay away from all caffeine and cold meds as they tend to elevate the bp also Love & Peace Maryjo
Response:
My blood pressure if anything goes in the other direction when on pred, but my BP is typically low anyway, 110/70 is probably slightly higher than normal for me. 90/60 is not uncommon. — Sam CD Class of ‘97 Ileostomate since ‘99 http://www.1earth.net/~ferrier
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I assume from all the people who are bouncing off the walls from prednisone, that it may be elevating their BP. I wondered whether it was likely what has caused the excursions I have experienced. I don’t get mood swings, just unexpected elevations of BP, which themselves cause anxiety. They are sometimes spectacular! 136/62 to 195/85 to 123/57 in less than 2 hours. I have them pretty well under control with anxiety meds plus my usual BP meds. I just wonder if this is the prednisone at work. If it were not for the "munchies", I would not be aware of prednisone, but it sure helps my innards, and is good for my asthma too. Boyd
Response:
Thanks Maryjo, I have almost eliminated caffeine. I always swilled diet Coke all day. There was a note with my BP monitor that said diet sodas with caffeine were instant bombs for BP. I have found that to be so. I have cut down to a cup or two of coffee in the morning, and otherwise it is diet caffeine free Pepsi. I also have some anxiety meds which I take more aggressively. My systolic seems to get high more than the diastolic. If I am not mistaken the Drs worry more about high diastolic readings. Actually at the moment I am doing pretty well. I can’t hear anything, but can see pretty well, and both my asthma, and UC seem to be under control. I don’t often take my BP now, but it has typically been in the 130-150 range systolic and 60-65 diastolic. My Dr regards these as fine, so I am not worried now. Boyd
