I have asthma and go through bouts of that evil unproductive cough. What I’ve found to work best is azmamacort. It’s a steroid inhaler that really takes down the inflammation of the lung tissue and quiets the cough. It takes a couple of days to get full benefit, but it’s a real life saver for me. Your friend should talk to the doctor about this. An arbuterol inhaler, while a lot less pricy, won’t take care of the inflammation the way the steroid inhaler will. And really, it’s not a life long proposition. I usually only have to use it in the spring and fall when all the fluffies are are out. If nothing else, maybe a referral to a respiratory guy or an allergiest. Even though it’s not allergy, they are the best docs equiped to deal with breathing problems. Hope this helps you out. Thanks Amy.  My first reply! I will pass it on to her. MUST get my friend on the net soon she needs upgrade computer as well as biology!
