Question:
Yes, I have stomach problems too. Mine started when I was taking too much naproxen on an empty stomach. We got that one under control but ever since then I’ve had troubles. It gets worse when I’m taking more advils and I’m not able to take more than a couple naproxen before I notice a big change too. Spicy things, nuts, caffeine, . . . all bother me too. I do take a natural supplement called Acid-Ease that has some food digesting enzymes, slippery elm and marshmallow root in it and find that it helps. Other hints I’ve gotten over time are: eat more small meals instead of the 3 large ones, don’t lay down after eating, sleep with upper body elevated, avoid bothersome foods, … Probably the same ones everyone’s heard. Quite frankly, sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of food it is. There’s other herbal and natural things too but I can’t remember them right now. Oh, and yes, I have the bowel and back problems with my endo too. Darcy
Response:
Yes, I have major problems with Acid Reflux. If it weren’t for Tums, I don’t know what I’d do.
Response:
Joanne: I as you have chronic back pain from endo.. Plus many other symptom’s. I have acid reflux from all the pain med.’s I am on. I never had these problem’s befoe I started the med.’s. Are you on alot of diffent med.’s? Pain med.’s can definatly cause acid reflux. I have even had a esphogus infections. I thought I was having a heart attack. It was so scarry. It took a month to get that under control and I have not had any re-occurance as of yet. I use Prilosec everyday for the acid reflux. Best of luck to you. Angel
Response:
I had all those symptoms you were talking about. HORRIBLE acid reflux, & gastritis that landed me in the hospital more than once. I lived on Zantac and Rolaids. I didn’t think it was related to anything until I had my gallbladder removed in January 98, and almost all of my stomach problems are gone. I literally went from an entire large bottle of Rolaids a week to maybe 1 or 2 single Rolaids a week. Something to think about… BTW, I had all the upper GI tests, told it was nerves, "I can’t find anything wrong…blah blah blah… Eventually they found it. Response:
Hmmm, very interesting! I, too, began to have chronic heartburn and chronic low-back pain around the same time. A few years later I was diagnosed with endo, but no doctor has ever connected these three health issues. Makes you wonder! Actually, I’m not so sure acid reflux is technically my problem. I had an endoscopy last August, and my gastro dr saw very little acid damage and therefore concluded that my constant heartburn is a result of hypersensitivity in the esophagus. I’ve been taking Carafate (prescription), which does help but hasn’t eradicated my symptoms. I still take Pepcid and/or Gaviscon (both OTC) almost daily. I laughed when you listed all the foods you avoid: tomato products, caffeine, soda, alcohol, chocolate. Those are the things that really set me off too! You know what other foods kill me? Peanut butter and bananas! Too bad–I love all of those things! :) Let us know if you find out any more… ~Jackie
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I have read so many messages, but not all yet. I can see that some of you have bowel problems with endo, but does anyone have any problems with Acid Reflux? I have pain, burning, gas and an unpleasant feeling in my chest. I have had an upper GI which showed acid reflux but the med’s just are not working I am not eating tomato based products, caffiene, chocolate, soda or alcohol. All the symptoms started around the same time as the bad back pains that my doctor says are from endo. It makes me wonder. If anyone has these symptoms, please respond. I do feel there is some connection there. Thank you! Joanne
Response:
Joanne. I too have acid reflux AND endo AND ibs. I was only diagnosed with endo 6 mos ago and had a lap and stage 3 endo. But, previous to my having the lap, I went to the doctor with reflux and nauseaed stomach plus abdomen etc. I was put on prevacid and propulsid and used to eat a large bottle of tums a week. This went on for 2 years or so. I had all the tests done, upper gi, colonoscopy (which actually found my endo) and all the other lovely ones. I was always told from docs before knowing of my endo that it was my nerves but after reading a lot about endo within the last six months, I am beginning to see a link. My stomach is always "mildly inflamed" but nothing serious. I think there IS a link too. tiffany

Response:
Tiffany, Wow! They actually found your endo with c olonoscopy? That’s great encouragement for me. My gyn wants me to have another lap (had one 9 years ago) but my reg. dr. wants me to have a signmondoscopy or colonoscopy, have appointment next week for a consultation with the surgeon. It would be great if they could find it that way. Were you having any problems with your bowels? Would appreciate any info. Am meeting with the gyn for pre-op consult tomorrow, but won’t decide anything, obviously until I get the results of the colonoscopy. Did you have any back pain? Thanks, Pat
Response:
Hi Joanne, My name is Tina and I’m from kansas. I have had some hearburn that feels like it is just making its way up my throat. Although I have not been diagnosed with reflux I think theres a possiblity they could be linked. Mine seems to be around menses time, and I even get to the point that feel like I’m going to vomitt. I think it all has to do with the Endo, with it is on your bowel and all depending on the scar it probably(don’t quote me cause I’m not a doctor)my be causinf this acid indigestion. Good Luck Tina
Response:
Joanne, I have the same problem. It may be spasms from your colon believe it or not. I have stage 4 endo with severe IBS. Librax stops the spasms, chest pains, upset stomach, etc. It took every kind of test in the world to find out it was not GERD, but in fact was the damaged colon from my endo.
Response:
I am 22 and has endo for 4 years. I also have Acid Reflux. This was the first time that I really had a problem with it. My doctor found out that after doing a percudure where they put a small camera through your mouth and into your stomach. My gastroenterologist said that I had gastroparesis and biogastritis. Basically Acid Reflux. This is the first time that I have been in this web site. If you have any questions you can email me.
Response:
Joanne: I too suffer from Acid Reflux, and am slated for a gastric scope next month. So far non of the perscriped meds have impacted these symptoms. My Primary Health Care Dr. has indicated that when someone is in chronic pain, the stomach can overproduce acid, as a response. I’m very interested in any feedback or support in contracting this most hateful symptoms. Patti
Response:
Your not alone when it comes to this… I have the same problems and I’ve had them since I was in middle school.. I haven’t tasted a tomatoe since I was 12 and I love ketchup… Hang in there we can make it… Debi*
Response:
I needed to add my voice to this discussion. I definitely have this problem and it gets much worse right before my period.
Response:
I’m chiming in on this one too. For the past year now, I can count on acid reflux around the time of my period (just before, during and right after.) I thought this was hormone related (just my own theory.) I am scheduled for a lap on 4/30 (with possible bowel resection, if things look bad.) The acid reflux has started occurring throughout the month within the last couple of months. I now think it is more than "hormones" and may be related to my intestinal track being generally unsettled due to endo on/in the bowel (probably). Jules
Response:
I have a hiatal hernia. I try to eat several small meals throughout the day rather than the 3 -A-Day deal we’ve been trained to do. I got ever so slightly irritated when a sister- in-law told me "If everyone else can do it, so can you." (Ooops, got sidetracked….still bugs me even 2 years later that she said that…..) I’ve not been officially diagnosed with endo, so I don’t know if there’s a correlation. But I also have other things like "borderline" asthma, sensitivity to smells and things like that. I guess I’m just a medical disaster. or Delicate, as DH puts it. Suzanne
