Question:

Today was my first long day of class since changing my schedule.  I also made this my refeed day since I knew I was going to be stressed. So the bad part of the day, I got chinese for lunch.  Otherwise it was great, I was able to walk to the 5th floor of the building without having any heavy breathing/asthma issues, a guy who was in my class last semester asked me if I lost weight and said I look great *blush*, my size 12 pants that I just bought 3 weeks ago are getting baggier and some shirts I stopped wearing because they were clinging to my hips fit right again.  My grandmother gave me $20 for doing such a good job losing weight (yes, weird but appreciated!).  And I did over 2 hours of cardio, playing dance dance revolution with my brother. Which is very fun for cardio, although not for people with bad knees since there’s so much jumping! Tomorrow is weight lifting, I’m going to try adding some weight and see how that goes.  Less reps mean less time needed so I’ll like that part of it. :)

I have been doing squats, which really takes it out of me, and also bicep curls, assisted chinups, bench press, shoulder press, calf raise and leg press.  I need to add something else in for the back, but so far this is working pretty well for me. det

My workouts are: Squats Deadlifts Shoulder press Bicep curls Rows Situps on exercise ball with added weight Calf raises Lateral pulldown (um, forgetting if this is the correct name) Benchpress Leg press I probably don’t take enough time between exercises, I’ll have to take a bit more.

Det, does your gym have a gravatron?   Its an assisted pullup, chinup, etc machine for the back.   Awesome lat work. You could add in rows for the back too, and lat pulldowns

Is that a PS2 game with the mat where you have to follow the arrows?  I’ve been trying to get the name of that game – I plan on buying a PS2 just for that game to play all winter :) Jennifer

Duh!  Yup, we’ve got one.  And I think my next goal will be to do an unassisted chinup… det

I’ve been trying to get the name of that game – I plan on buying a PS2 just for that game to play all winter :) Yep, it’s been out for awhile so you should be able to find the game at a reduced price (also, there’s a new one coming out around christmas).  Just a warning, the soft mat is a pain in the butt.  It slides all over the place.  I fixed that by velcroing it to a foam mat.  There is a hard mat too but they are very expensive.  I’ve had Dance Dance Revolution for a long long time, I had the japanese version for playstation 1… and the japanese version has better music then the american version but otherwise is pretty much the same.  I really love workout mode, it keeps track of the calories being burned and has a much easier mode then game mode (game mode on the easiest mode is hard!  it takes a lot of practice to get good at it).

Thanks for the info, I’ll look into it or wait for the new version at X-mas since I won’t get my PS2 until then unless I find a used one.

Ooo, I’ve been playing DDR for a while, it’s really fun! The best thing to do is to modify your pad and it’ll last a lot longer/work a lot better. Basic instructions here: http://www.ddrfreak.com/library/faqs-modding.php Although I also added a layer of padding between the plywood and the pad, the stuff I found was dance floor padding that they use under wood dance floors. Makes it much springier. If you find an old playstation 1, you can hack it, and then play copies of the japanese game. Of course that’s illegal, so I won’t advise it, but it would be cheap, and at least you’d get to play. :) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Is that a PS2 game with the mat where you have to follow the arrows? That’s one of my [long-term] goals.  It’s a two-part goal, actually: I’ need to be able to lift more and I need to have less to lift.  If you get what I mean. I do the Gravitron on nearly every UBWO these days.  The problem is that it works so much of the shoulder and biceps that it’s hard to isolate those muscles afterwards because they’re already so beat.  I do assisted military pull-ups, tricep dips and then negative pull-ups with the gravitron.   I find the gravitron is the best way to do negatives because I can set the assist weight to be just enough to keep me from shooting down.  I’m learning to hate negatives.  I figure this means they must be good for me. Thanks for the info. I found a PC version of the game and a USB adapter for the PS mat that I might pick up instead of a PlayStation, then I can take it with me when I travel. Jennifer 300/159/140

Look in some of these large Malls (if you have them) or a store called "Funcoland" or a place which sells used games. Most of those places have "used" game systems.  They sell them for about a third of the orignal cost. And will give you a years warrenty. I see a bunch of them each week. Monte
